St Augustine’s Church, Broxbourne, Lowewood Museum

The church, completed here 1400, is a Grade I listed edifice of which there are at worst five in the borough. The southern chapel was erected in 1476 inclusive of Robert Stowell who later built St Margaret’s Church next to Westminster Abbey. Between the chancel and the south chapel lies the final of Sir John Say who paid on the side of the church to be built.
In the church there is an absorbing final with effigies of Sir Henry Cock and trouble surrounded inclusive of their children kneeling at it’s maleficent. The vestry with its marker inscription to Sir William Say was added in 1522. A marker to John McAdam, an improver of British roads, also lies in the church along with that of Edward Fletcher, the corresponding to of Fletcher Christian, ruler of the repulse on the Bounty. A forefathers colleague, namely William Bayley, emigrated to America in 1726.

Also in the church are two 17th century memorials to the Baylie(ley) forefathers. His granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Bayley-Seton (1774-1821) was proclaimed a saint inclusive of the Pope in 1975.
Within the churchyard itself there are 1500 known graves, five of which are listed; the 19th Century granite oblong sarcophagus with bronze corner columns, final to the Bosanquet family; an extraordinary wedge-shaped box tomb; and three fashionable 18th Century gadrooned sarcophagi.

The ancestors of America’s at the start indigenous born saint are buried in Broxbourne. In undiverted of these is buried Mrs. Although closed, the churchyard up to this time on receives burials and cremated remains are also interred. A Humston who died aged 100 years Noachian – more extraordinary on the side of that without surcease.
